Preincarnated History:

Mudou Setsuna is the reincarnation of the genetically produced Organic Angel Alexiel. Alexiel was cursed for going against God (in loving her brother) with the fate of being constantly reborn, suffering terribly and dying a horrible death each time. Setsuna is the reincarnation born after the incarnation in which someone gave Alexiel a peaceful death and thus interrupted the cycle.

But Setsuna has his own problems, including an intense urge for violence and being romantically in love with his sister, Sara. His link with Alexiel also causes him much misfortune, as any danger befalling him usually targets another instead, sparing him but making others, especially his mother, view him as cursed. Although his family is fairly wealthy, his parents divorced because his father cheated on his mother. He lives with his father, while Sara lives with their mother. All of the unrest in his life and his violent urges drive him to delinquent behavior and make him incredibly rebellious toward society.

Setsuna remains ignorant of his true fate until angels arrive on Earth, hoping to gather the energy of humans. This leads to the revelation that Setsuna, being the reincarnation of Alexiel, is considered the Messiah among the angels and demons of his world and is expected to join in their fight to end the corruption threatening everything. Amid the chaos, Setsuna and Sara reveal their true feelings for each other and run away. Setsuna blows off most of his destiny until Sara is killed in an attempt to save him, which causes him to unleash his true powers and nearly destroy the city. When he recovers, he decides to travel to Hades to retrieve her soul. Along the way, he has to deal with the further revelation that his best friend is really another incarnation of Lucifer and was in love with Alexiel, something that becomes especially complicated after Setsuna dies in Hades and is brought back in Alexiel's body. Setsuna is able to return to his original body through some help from other angels. He's then recruited to help take down an evil regime in Heaven, although Setsuna's main focus is rescuing Sara, who was also brought back in another body.

Setsuna is able to find Sara, but during their attempt to escape, they are pursued, leading to the capture and torture of one of their allies. Sara returns to her captors to protect a friend, while Setsuna has an emotional breakdown. With the help of his friends, he recovers and decides to focus on taking down the regime while Sara is doing her own part. It goes well until Alexiel's brother shows up, kills Setsuna's best friend and badly injures Setsuna. Setsuna eventually overcomes his injuries through his own power and goes to save Sara, who is being put on trial for loving her brother. Although Sara is saved by another angel, misunderstandings result in her being left alone and brainwashed by an evil creature into opening a secret portal. During the fight against the creature, Setsuna's best friend returns as Lucifer and Setsuna is unable to fight him, resulting in the death of another ally. Before he dies, that ally helps Setsuna gain access to where Sara is. Setsuna masters his powers to fully stand against Lucifer and Alexiel's brother, who has Sara.

Reincarnated History:

Alexi Angel is the only son of two middle class British-Japanese parents (since Setsuna always had British blood) and grew up in Locke City. Unlike Setsuna's parents who constantly fought, Alexi's parents get along well with each other and have no major problems. This is especially important, given the aftermath of a car accident that happened when Alexi was around nine. The accident killed the driver, Alexi's aunt, and left Alexi with a traumatic brain injury. While at first, it seemed that Alexi demonstrated a remarkable recovery from the accident, it was later revealed that the injury created a mental imbalance that made Alexi more susceptible to violent impulses when emotionally provoked. This trait was revealed during a bullying incident in school when an older boy was savagely pulling a younger girl's hair and Alexi tackled the boy and broke his nose. Alexi participates in monthly (originally weekly) therapy sessions to help him manage his impulses and this has allowed him to remain in public schools. Although Alexi's parents offer a strong, emotional rock for him and are always there to comfort him or talk him through flare-ups, Alexi still sees these urges as a critical flaw in character and indicative that something is horribly wrong with him that can't be fixed, no matter what the doctors say. It's an anxiety that makes him somewhat cautious around most people in person and not someone who easily opens up or says what he's thinking.

It also doesn't help that Alexi seems to be plagued by frustrating spells of bad luck, both to him and to people around him. Most of the incidents are nothing serious and remain in the realm of spilled drinks, annoying tumbles and lost items. But the combination of bad luck and the accident that left him with an incredibly short fuse sometimes make Alexi wonder if some higher power is out to get him. Thankfully, Alexi's lack of true devotion to any particular religion prevents him from thinking too much into things for too long.

Alexi is also an avid sports player, especially with baseball and tennis. He sees sports as a way to focus his violent urges into something more productive. Of course, he avoids the more contact-heavy sports like boxing, hockey or football. He currently attends Locke High School and participates in the school's sports programs. When he's not playing sports, Alexi enjoys working out and keeping himself in shape, as another means of burning up excess adrenaline. He jogs or bikes to school and goes for regular runs in the local park. He's equally invested in the professional teams, particularly the New York Yankees and loves collecting memorabilia.

Because of his family's support and ongoing therapy, Alexi is surprisingly decent at making friends, although he prefers to keep his social circles small and limited to people he knows he can trust should his personal flaws reveal themselves around them. His typical friends tend to be the more adventurous types that wouldn't mind that sort of thing and are actually intrigued by it. But Alexi does his best to stay out of trouble since he doesn't want to make things even harder on his parents.

Alexi is average when it comes to academics but still works as hard as he can to please his parents, who usually tell him that all that matters is that he does his best. He's hoping to get a scholarship through sports but worries that it might take him away from his girlfriend, who he has been sort of dating for the past year, as much as that astonishes him, given his issues. He's still nervous about actually calling her his girlfriend though since she's managed to avoid any serious incidents so far. She's also from a wealthier family so he feels a little undeserving. He dotes on her endlessly.

First Echo:
Alexi's first echo happened around the same time he met his girlfriend. His family was visiting the mall and he was sitting down at one of the tables in the food court to eat a burger when he noticed that someone left a ring on the table. It looked fairly expensive so he glanced around to see if anyone had realized it was missing and come back looking for it. Sure enough, a girl about his age soon walked in and started asking the server if anyone had found a ring. Eager to help such a pretty girl, Alexi showed her the ring and asked if it was hers. The second he did, he had a flash of holding out another ring, this one much less expensive-looking, as a child and demanding that someone else take it so they would stop crying. The person he was talking to was too blurry to see. But the next thing he knew, the girl he was with was firmly telling him that she wasn't crying and that he shouldn't be such a jerk just because he found it. Alexi apologized and was able to smooth things over with the girl over some ice cream and a walk downtown, but it bugged him that he couldn't figure out who he'd been talking to in his vision and why that ring seemed so damn important.

Preincarnation Personality:

Setsuna starts off the series headstrong, rebellious, selfish and slightly anti-social because of his cursed fate and because of the way his parents resent him. He acts like he doesn't care what anyone else think be he also considers himself a beast for his feelings toward Sara and can become severely shaken when he has to confront this, either through his mother screaming at him for corrupting Sara or students mocking him for his feelings. This nearly drives him to suicide. He later gets over that once he concludes that love can't be a mistake and even if others see it that way, all that really matters is that the people in love are happy. After this, Setsuna becomes a strong defender of all love, no matter how messed up.

Because of his internalized resentment of himself, he has trouble relating to others for a long time. His world is originally pretty much Sara and his best friend, Kira, whom helped Setsuna learn how to control his violent nature. Though Kira also encourages Setsuna's delinquent side. Eventually, he grows to allow more people into his social circle. Despite his antisocial behavior, Setsuna is still very emotional and will do his best to help others if he sees them in trouble, especially if they're the underdog type. Even if it means being reckless at times. But he also has some extreme tunnel vision when it comes to Sara and will often miss how others feel about him since all he wants is Sara's love and happiness.

Setsuna also has a strange knack for getting through to people. He tends to use a tough love approach that is less about saving people and more about motivating them to save themselves. He can be quite violent in the process and is not against punching someone to get his point across. But he also has a gentle side that will emphasize with people's problems before he launches into his tough love mode. Oddly enough, he's good at bringing out the best in people because he gives them the feeling that he sincerely believes that they can be better. Setsuna wants everyone to believe they are worth something.

He is fiercely protective of his friends and is very physical in his affections, constantly touching or hanging off them. His protectiveness can be a problem due to Setsuna's emotional nature, which means that he's prone to fits of depression when things go wrong and that he often blames himself and his own failures. But he can usually be brought back to functionality by the same tough love he uses on others and responds the best to that type of approach. Setsuna's friends are his refuge and he doesn't mind leaning on them for support or vice versa.

The situation with being Alexiel's reincarnation also further plays on Setsuna's self image in that he believes everyone prefers Alexiel over him and wishes he wasn't here. Setsuna is adamant about proving that he is himself and not some dead angel. This is a very sensitive subject for him and reacts on extreme levels when he isn't sure whether someone is seeing him or Alexiel, usually to the point of screaming at people and running away. Most of this is probably because Setsuna already sees himself as flawed so being told he should be another person entirely legitimizes that. It takes him a long time to overcome this and even then, he emphasizes that he is not Alexiel.

Overall, he is brash, reckless and can be kind of teenager dumb in that he rarely thinks things through and just does whatever his instincts tell him. Setsuna usually says whatever is on his mind. He speaks roughly and has very little tact, which can sometimes come across as mean, even if he doesn't expect it to. He doesn't really set out to be nice and any niceness outside of helping comes across as a more casual thing. Setsuna also loves to tease, which ties into the lack of tact problem. He's not easily fazed and can take strange occurrences pretty well, so long as nobody's getting hurt. He prefers to be a slacker, but when he has his mind set on something, it is very hard to deter him from it, especially when it involves someone he cares about.

Any Differences:
Alexi having supportive parents is a big thing since it significantly lessens his urge to rebel against the world and makes him less independent and a bit more obedient, almost leaning toward submissive. He's going to try harder not to upset people and he's going to feel worse when he does it. He's also going to care a lot more about not coming across as an ass to people. This goes against Setsuna's usual habit of saying whatever's on his mind since Alexi is generally much more cautious and closed-off. Another big thing is his involvement in sports to curb his violent urges since Setsuna is typically more lackadaisical and doesn't really care about the world around him. Alexi will be more driven as a result and have a definite goal in life beyond being with his sister, which is Setsuna's main goal. He'll probably also be a bit more competitive and more overall healthy. Alexi being an only child is also major in that it removes that level of self-hatred toward being an incestuous beast. Alexi is still messed up because of the violent urges, but he can't accuse himself of sinning against God at least. Because he no longer has to justify his own love, Setsuna may also no longer be as open in regards to the love of others and may hold them to more strict society standards. He's not going to forgive people so easily, even if they love each other.

Abilities:
- Wing Manifestation: has three wings that he can unfurl when he chooses so that he can fly
- Nanatsusaya: holy cursed sword of incredible power that he can summon from anywhere, usually in the form of a bracelet when not a sword
- Enhanced Combat Skills: can use a sword and physically fight someone
- Enhanced Durability, making it hard to badly injure him unless you have considerable power (he's been smashed into walls and was still conscious)
- Enhanced Strength, Setsuna can pretty much easily beat the crap out of most people when he wants to, he can also hurl around massive chunks of stone to use as shields
- Healing: he can heal himself by using a great deal of his astral energy, he's healed a punctured eye and a missing wing before
- Astral Powers: holy blasts of destructive energy, can take out a city, at maximum power are said to be capable of even more
- Purification: can purify cursed souls and send them to the afterlife, he's healed zombies before and people infected by evil angels
